HELLO.

My name is Michal Ruprecht. I am a Detroit-based journalist currently finishing my last year at the University of Michigan. I aim to write disruptive stories that lead to improved scientific and medical literacy among medically-underserved communities. I’ve been a student journalist since 2014 and have reported on research, environment and healthcare.

Since 2019, I have worked on three separate investigations as a beat reporter and assistant editor at The Michigan Daily, a student newspaper at the University of Michigan, about alleged medical malpractice, abuse in research and COVID-19 violations in a restaurant. One investigation was published and my article led to an improved culture and anonymous reporting system in an academic department. I also led coverage of a conjoined twin separation (the first of its kind in the state of Michigan) and the development of a future universal flu vaccine. I've covered everything from a local barbershop’s 80th anniversary to a hidden mural from the 1880s. Find some of these stories and other favorites below. I can be reached at me@michalruprecht.com or on Twitter.
